Sports Themes - Blog 7

      One theme that can be linked between this weeks reading, "A Variety of Religious Experience", and this weeks video, Football High, is the want of rules and regulations in games. "A variety of religious experience" talked about the development of games and the need to set standards as a way to equal out chances of winning for sports teams of different regions. It also talked about how sports took a liking to by the public because of their clear cut rules that life does not always offer. The link I see with Football High is the administrators and media calling for more coherent rules for high school football as a safety measure to prevent against unneeded injury.

    Another theme I saw in sports was the lengthening of childhoods connected with public education. The reading brought up that with the rise in education prior to joining the workforce for the youth, learning how to play sports became common. This relates back to today's society very much, since sports are a key part of today's education extracurricular activities for youth. The Football High video demonstrates attitudes towards American's passionate beliefs about youth in sports perfectly. I believe this links back to the readings explanation on why adults enjoy watching sports they learned as youth, as a way to reminisce.
